CONTAINER GARDENING TOMATOES
What exactly does this mean? Container gardening is the technique of
growing tomato plants (or any plant) exclusively in containers instead
of planting them in the ground. This is an especially great
urban garden technique.
People have been using containers for planting for many years, it is
just now getting more attention. With more urban gardeners
seeking ways to optimize their small yards, balcony's, etc.,
the demand for better container designs is "booming", or should I say
blooming.
CONTAINER GARDENING TOMATOES is so easy, there are less
bugs, less weeding and plants can be easily moved as the sun moves. When
growing tomatoes in containers, you can purchase plants called Patio
Tomatoes. These plants are smaller in size, yet yield a good sized
tomato. Of course, this specific tomato plant will cost you more.
The truth is, you can plant any tomato in your container. Cherry
Tomatoes, Plum, Beefsteaks, they will all do very well. Just make sure
your container is deep enough (10-11" deep), has good drainage, and that
you are prepared to "stake" them as they grown. After all, you don't
want your tomato plants crashing down. Give them the support they need
and deserve so they can comfortably support all their luscious fruit.
Please - don't forget the "good drainage", too much water in your
container, and your tomatoes will drown!
Yikes!! Casualty in the Container! ;o(
The best way to know how often to water your container tomato plants is
to stick your finger in the dirt. If the soil is dry on the top, but you
can feel moisture further down, you probably don't need to water them
yet. If it feels dry 3"-4" down, go ahead and water them. You can water
till it leaks out the bottom of your container.
This is pretty much all there is to CONTAINER GARDENING TOMATOES
- A Simple and Great Technique For The URBAN GARDEN!
